There seems to be a lot of negativity going around lately. And it doesn’t help that there’s a pandemic out there that has been wreaking havoc on our way of life. But I wonder if this virus only highlighted our inability to stay positive in the face of adversity. Sure, it’s easy to be happy and look on the bright side when everything is going well, but the true measure of our character comes when we are tested. And judging by how many are reacting I’d say we as a society need some work.
So how do we stay positive? Now I’m not sure there’s one perfect answer and I realize everyone’s different. But I believe if we are all at least trying, then we can bring some positivity and happiness into our lives.
For me, music is a great way to improve my mood. It can energize and motivate me, or it can help me relax. There is great power in music. There have even been studies that have shown the link between music and our emotions. Music activates the region of the brain that releases dopamine, the chemical that makes you feel good and relaxes the body. Pick your favorite music, preferably the kind that will uplift you, and jam out!
Try to do an act of kindness daily. It doesn’t have to be much either. Being kind to others can boost happiness and reduce feelings of negativity. I know it can be slightly difficult now that we have to social distance so much, but a kind email or text can go a long way.
Thinking optimistically can be tough. Especially with all that’s going on around us. But remember to ask yourself, “is there another way to view this?” Chances are the answer is, “yes.” That doesn’t mean you have to be blind to all the problems going on around you, but a positive outlook makes you better at accepting bad situations and solving problems.
Do something that excites you. It doesn’t have to lead to a career or even be long term, but just find the thing that you’ve been wanting to do and do it. I know it’s helped me to achieve greater satisfaction when I pursued my passion, so I encourage everyone to do the same.
I’ve mentioned this several times before, but only because I believe it works. It doesn’t have to be any specific way and it can just be for a few minutes a day. But it will help improve your mood, decrease stress, and even improve sleep. And combining your meditation with CBD will further enhance the experience.
You don’t have to let bad news and negativity ruin your day. You have a choice about where you focus your attention and how you choose to respond to any situation. Try incorporating these tips into your life and I’m confident you’ll see how the positives outweigh the negatives.
