This week’s business spotlight may seem similar on the surface, but I feel it could revolutionize the way people drive in the United States. There are plenty of ride share and rental car options out there, but both still have their drawbacks. If you choose the ride sharing option, you’re at the mercy of someone else driving and if you choose a rental car you are responsible for fueling and returning the car. What if I told you there’s a better alternative? Introducing this week’s business spotlight: Upshift.
Upshift is a company currently based out of San Francisco, but I can see something like this spreading to more cities and more states across the country. It was founded by Ezra Goldman and Ayako Hiwasa back in 2012 as a way to allow people to drive who don’t necessarily want a car. Sound confusing? Well it couldn’t be any simpler. If you want or need to drive, but don’t want to actually own a car of your own, Upshift is there for you.
All you have to do is subscribe to Upshifts monthly service to have a car you can use delivered right to you. Simply text them and in less than an hour, you have a car that you can drive. And better yet, when you’re done they’ll come pick it up! What a great deal!
Here are the details – Upshift has a monthly subscription plan for people that want to drive, but don’t want to own a car. Customers can choose from three plans based on how often they want to drive: the Getaway plan (four days), the Freedom plan (eight days), or the Commuter plan (Monday through Friday each week). Basically, they have a plan for just about everyone. And with Upshifts great service, customers will get their car brought to them in under an hour.
Customers can choose between a Toyota Prius or a RAV4 hybrid SUV (both reliable and practical vehicles). And customers can even request special additions including dog seats, a surfboard rack, and even snow chairs. Once customers are done with the car, they just have to notify Upshift who will come and pick it up. Upshift then cleans the cars, fills them with gas, and even covers the insurance. Talk about quality service!
I recommend supporting Upshift for a variety reasons. If you’re in San Francisco, you know how expensive it is to live there, so why add on the price of a car loan, car insurance, and gas. Not to mention having a place to park it. And the more successful they are in San Francisco the more successful they can be in other cities in the US. Imagine having an option like this where you live and having the convenience of a car without all the hassle that comes with it.
